With the week's newspaper already sent to the press, Piedmont was hit by a massive tornado on May 24, 2011, forcing a complete overhaul of the paper with just hours to go before deadline. The frontpage (pictured) and several inside spreads were changed to provide tornado coverage.

For this format each front page was built to present hard news, a feature story with feature art, and community story that highlighted a member of the community. A community calendar was also included down the left rail and an inside story (usually sports related) was teased with a cut out in the masthead.
